[Voice / Action: CH1 Floor 4, 5/1] Birthday Party (Joint post with Ino)

[VOICE, INO]
[A loud, familiar voice would be heard throughout the network today. Good thing it's not so early in the morning when it hollers or there'd be a lot of ruined mornings today despite the important announcement.]

Hey, Luceti! We've all had a lot of drama these past few days so, what do you all say about a little party? It's Chouji's birthday today and, of course, that needs celebrating!

Come by the first community building and you'll find the happenings on the fourth floor. See you there!

[With a little giggle, the announcement ends there.]

[ACTION]
It was only a little bit of a surprise to Chouji when he received an invitation to his own birthday party, delivered to the apartment door. These were things you just had to expect and accept with Ino as a teammate. Everyone on the floor along with Kiba and Asuma received paper invitations. Then he heard her network post, inviting pretty much everyone in the village. Ino.

He'd laughed and grinned when he woke up to a knock on the apartment door and the smell of chips that morning, a purple whirlwind demanding entrance to the apartment so she could decorate it. A glance down the hallway showed a trail of butterfly decorations, marking the path of Hurricane Ino.

Chouji gladly spent half of his birthday in the kitchen, likewise decorated with butterflies, cooking for his own party. He'd always been the team's cook, and there was no reason for that to change just because it was his party.

By dinnertime, the common areas as well as Chouji, Shikamaru, and Masaomi's apartment held enough potato chips to feed an army even without all the food Chouji cooked. Barbecue, of course, along with vegetables, rice, fish, chicken curry, miso soup, and one or two desserts. He made sure to include pudding, his thanks to Ino for her thought and effort.

Now they just needed some guests to help eat it all.

[ Tenten's smile brightens to a similar level of Chouji's. She knows Chouji is more of a man of action, and she wouldn't have his thank you have any more words besides these two.

If she gave a gift to Guy-sensei, she'd be drowned in tears, hugs, and she'd still be listening to his words of gratitude. ] You're welcome.

Ikki! I talked to her once! [ a ~connection~ ] I'll be sure to find her and offer her some.

[Those needles are never getting used again, Tenten. They're in their current arrangements for good, decorative rather than dangerous.]

She's really nice. [As well as endearing, adorable, intelligent, and any number of other positive adjectives.] I'm sure she'll like them.

I'll take a few too, for that matter. I haven't seen these in a long time. We should take some outside in the dark, so the sparks show when we throw them.

Yeah! I'll save some with you, Chouji, so we can toss them together after dark. I know I'd like to see a couple of them explode in the streets! I bet I can make different patterns with them too depending on how I throw them! [ Mini-fireworks show for Chouji's birthday? It works! ]

I agree. She's a really kindhearted person.

Ah, that's true. You can probably do much more interesting things with them than most people, given your accuracy. [Chouji is actually looking forward to this. It's fun, it doesn't have any bearing on all of the grief circulating the group of shinobi (Does Tenten know? Probably not yet.), and he's having a wonderful birthday.]

I can probably make the Akamichi clan symbol appear with these badboys. [ She twirls one up and catches it with a very elated smile. ]

Really? [He beams at her. Tenten has been very thoughtful in each of the birthday offerings she brought, going out of her way to make the gifts perfectly suited for their recipient. Chouji notices, and his smile makes that quite obvious. He also likes that it all ties into her skill as a shinobi.]

Yeah. I just have to measure a scaled distance and everything.. It's no big deal. I make art with my weapons all the time, since target practice doesn't really do anything for me anymore. [ she's moved on to bigger and better things. ]

That's still very impressive. It is a big deal. I don't think many of us ever get past the utilitarian aspect of weapons work. My accuracy isn't high enough, and I don't know that my artistic skill is either.

That's quite refreshing to hear. A lot of people underestimate weapons, which is kinda lucky for me because I'll be able to win a couple of battles on that aspect alone, but it's also unlucky that I'm not respected as much as clanspeople. [ But she will prove them all wrong! WRONG! ] I know you don't need the high accuracy since you can blow someone up in a single punch.

I can turn my hair into spikes now too. [No more wrapping himself up in kunai on strings to create a spiked version of the meat tank jutsu.]

You do have a point. Everyone else spent so much time on their ninjutsu that they forgot about more advanced weapons work, and they underestimate it because it's their own weak point by comparison. I try not to underestimate my friends, though. [He'll look at Tenten and also shoot a glance in Lee's direction here]

[weaponry]

That's right! I've had a dream about that actually! You hardened your hair and let me pick off two pieces to fight someone with and it was awesome! [ that was a little creepy Tenten... ]

Yeah! I mean, after all, Itachi Uchiha was apparently famous for his shuriken work and many ninjas didn't even fall to his powerful ninjutsu or genjutsu! They fell to his handiwork! [ yes she loves weapons so much that objectivity rules. ]

[Chouji's eyes narrow for a second, warily. He does know that Tenten will go to great lengths for weapons, but this is news to him. He answers very slowly.] I... don't think that the technique would hold after the hair is separated from my body.

[weaponry]

Oh... yeah. That's a good point. [ Tenten briefly points her head down in shame. ] Just forget I ever said something.

[Chouji feels a little bad when he sees Tenten hanging her head. While they're on the subject of weapons, though, at least a distraction is readily available.] I was wondering if you have much experience with bos. I planned on either making one or commissioning it at the smithy sometime soon.

[weaponry]

I have a couple, actually. There's one that doesn't really work for me too well, but I got it anyways in case I grew in Luceti, or during a shift. [ Hasn't happened yet, if ever. ] You're free to have it, if you want. I'm pretty experienced with them. I spar with my partners regularly with them, and I sparred with Sakura while she just had a kunai and, you know, those fists. [ That was an ouch. ]

I wanted another weapon because of those Shifters who can block chakra-use, and I think a bo would suit me better than a sword. [Chouji is fairly traditional, and he's watched his father fight with a staff his entire life, so he has a better idea how to incorporate it into his fighting style.]

Well, you guys do come from a line where staff use is encouraged. Come see me later. I don't have the scroll on me right now but I'll be sure to get you your bo by tomorrow. I'll just have to put a bow on it first, for your birthday. [ Deadpanned. Yep. She really did make that awful pun just now. ]
