16autumnroad: (doubt)

If Ino speaks from experience, she's also been gone a long time. He doesn't want to ask how long quite yet. And he'll accept the assurance of their well-being at least long enough to gauge it himself, in person. "Good."

One word stands out. Upcoming. Ino wasn't there, has no memory of the battle with Asuma, of her father's death, any of it. Chouji can't tell her. Not now, and never over a communication device like this, when he can't even be there to comfort her properly. If Ino has been gone for a long time, Chouji will not make their reunion a heartbreaking one for her. He'll keep the news to himself, and he'll find out who else knows so she doesn't hear it from anyone but him.

Chouji is quiet for a little too long before he answers. "...Yes. You were there, though, right next to me. You looked after both of us, but especially me. Just like Asuma-sensei asked you to."

That's the only part he's willing to share today. His own weakness, and Ino's strength as she helped him through it.
